EM donate sanitisers for schools in Lepelle-Nkumpi

Today we are at Derek Kobe High School continuing with the Executive Mayor’s schools support program. The Executive Mayor of Cpricorn District Municipality Cllr John Mpe is joined by the Mayor of Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality Mme Meriam Molala donated sanitizers and thermometers to schools in the Lepelle-Nkumpi area. The handing over session took place at Derek Kobe High School in Lebowakgomo.

“We have taken a decision as the district command council to assist schools in our Municipality. We will not wait for the department of education, as the DCC we have decided to play our role in the whole process. It should be us who say we are ready instead of asking”, said Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe.

“We are going to support 80 schools in the district. Local mayor will adopt 10 schools and each of the school will receive various protective materials. As a district, we committed to account for half of the schools, 40”, said Executive Mayor, adding that they are however not limited to the number.

He added that the mask has now become the new reality. “As the municipality, we have noted that we need to ensure that we assist schools however we can. If there is no water, we should be engaged as the district and we will ensure that our water tankers go to supply water speedily. We will engage also the private sector in this regard, to negotiate that other schools also get to be assisted. We will approach them to assist on issues that will positively impact community’s livelihood”, said Executive Mayor.

“We know its never easy to be in the education sector. We all come from your hands, we need to support you as much as we can”, emphasized the Executive Mayor.

Each school will receive 30 liters of sanitizers, two thermometers and face marks for principal attending the meeting. “This will ensure you spend less time doing the screening with more thermometers. Capricorn District Municipality is the home of Excellence and we cannot Excell in isolation, you should be supported continuously. We are who we are because of you. We can never do it alone, we need to work together. We know this is a very difficult time for you as educators but be rest assured of our support all the way”, said Executive Mayor speaking to the Principals and circuit manager within the Capricorn South District.

Thank you for your support in ensuring that we succeed in whatever we do. You said you will support us and this is what you are exactly doing. You are indeed a man of your word. The team here must repay the Executive Mayor by giving him good results. We thank you for your intervention, it will really make a huge difference”, said the District Director Mrs Nkuzana.

The Executive Mayor also donated sanitizers to the circuits in Lepelle-Nkumpi area. On behalf of the schools they thanked the Executive Mayor for the support and promised to work hard to make him proud.

“We have developed a school support program in our Municipality as part of providing continuous support to the schools in our locality. It’s unfortunate because of the Covid-19 pandemic we had to halt some of the plans. However, the Coronavirus has presented us with an opportunity to relook at fast tracking our education support program”, said Cllr Meriam Molala, the Mayor of Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality.

“As a local municipalty this are list of our top performing schools in our area and we are very grateful and hope with the challenges of the year 2020, we will work hard to improve our overall performance in the district”, said Mayor Molala.

The schools that received the sanitizers were Matladi Project High School (Moletlane Circuit), Derek Kobe Secon (Lebowakgomo Circuit), Thaduku Primary (Lepelle Circuit), Sethwethwa and Tubake Secondary (Magatle Circuit), Matalane Primary and Mashianyane Sec (Noko Tlou Circuit), Dithabaneng Primary and Cheuekgolo Secondary ( Sepitsi Circuit) and Sedimothole Secondary (Mphahlele Circuit).
