EASTER MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF CDM

As we celebrate Easter holiday, I want to take this opportunity to extend my warmest wishes, blessings, and peace to the people of the Capricorn District Municipality.
Easter is a season that reminds us of the power of love, compassion, and triumph over adversity. This special holiday is a time for reflection, renewal, and hope. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ and the ultimate gift of love that was given to us. It is a time when families come together, faith is renewed, and communities are strengthened through unity and reflection
This is a time to connect with our loved ones, strengthen our communities, and celebrate life. However, it is also a time when we see an increase in road accidents, alcohol and drug abuse, and incidents of gender-based violence.
Transport and Safety:
As the Executive Mayor, I urge you to prioritise safety and responsibility in all that you do during this period. I urge you to obey the rules of the road. Do not drink and drive. Buckle up, avoid speeding, and ensure your vehicle is roadworthy. Pedestrians, please wear visible clothing at night and cross at designated points. Let us all arrive alive.
Substance Abuse:
The abuse of alcohol and drugs not only endangers your life but also the lives of those around you. We appeal to our communities, especially the youth, to celebrate responsibly. Excessive drinking and drug use often lead to poor decisions, accidents, and violence. Let us choose healthy, respectful, and joyful ways to celebrate.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV):
Gender-based violence remains a painful reality in our society, and it often spikes during holiday seasons. I call on all of you to take a stand against GBV. Protect and respect women, children, and vulnerable persons. Let our homes and gatherings be safe spaces, not places of harm. If you witness abuse, report it. Silence makes you complicit.
Together, we can make this Easter a time of unity, safety, and compassion. Let us care for one another, look out for our neighbours, and ensure that everyone returns home safely. I urge you all to spread love, kindness and compassion to those around you, especially those who are less fortunate. Let us continue to work towards building a stronger and more inclusive community, where everyone is valued and respected.
May this Easter bring you and your loved ones peace, happiness and blessings. Stay safe, be kind.
