CLLR Malebana Chuene has come full circle in serving the Capricorn District Municipality after his election in November 2021 as Council Chief Whip, a position he held in 2006-2011.
He also served as a Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Planning (2011-2016) and again recently as MMC for Corporate Services (2016 – 2021).
He has a long and wide experience both as civil servant and politician. Malebana began his career as HR Generalist at De Beers Venetia Mine in 1992-2000. He then joined the then Trade and Investment (TIL) in 2011-2013 as Manager Human Resources and before his re-election as Chief Whip, he was the Manager Performance Management System at Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) since 2013. Before he was appointed as Chief Whip, he was still working at LEDA as a Manager: Human Resources Development.
Malebana is also a seasoned leader with a long experience as the current Chairperson of SACP Limpopo. He also held the following various positions in the ANC and Alliance structures: Chairperson of ANC Capricorn Region (2006 – 2010), Deputy Chairperson of ANC Capricorn Region (2002 – 2006), Sub-Regional Chairperson of ANC Greater Alldays – Buysdorp and Limpopo ANC Region (1998 – 2001), Secretary of ANC Alldays Branch (1996 – 1998), Secretary of ANCYL Maponto branch (1994 – 1995), National Union of Mineworkers shop steward (1992 – 1999), Chairperson of MAYCO (Maponto Youth Congress) in (1990 – 1993), SACP Castro Pilusa District secretary (2012 – 2016), SACP Capricorn District Secretary (2002 -2008) and Treasurer of ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Task Team (2014).
He holds two Masters Degrees in Management and Management and Development from the University of Northwest and Southern Business School respectively. He also completed Diploma in Labour Relations Management (Wits), Project Management and Municipal Executive Finance Management (Wits University Business School), Advanced Diploma in Labour Relations Management (Southern Business School), Certificate in Leadership and Management for Transformation, Certificate in Project Management, Certificate Program in Industrial Relations. He is currently a PhD candidate in Business Administration with Gideon Robert University.
