On 22 September 2026, Capricorn District Municipality officially opened the TT Cholo Fire Station at Ga-Rampuru, Moletji, under Polokwane Local Municipality, as part of the District Heritage Day Celebration.
The day began with a courtesy visit to Moshate wa Bahlaloga, where Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo and the delegation engaged with Kgoshi Kgabo III at Moletši Moshate. The visit formed part of the Municipality’s commitment to respecting and strengthening relations with traditional leadership and communities.
Delivering the keynote address at the official opening, Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo highlighted the significance of naming the facility after Dr Tlou Theophilus “TT” Cholo, a legendary activist, freedom fighter and struggle veteran whose contribution to South Africa’s liberation struggle forms part of the country’s history and heritage.
The newly built fire station had been operational since 15 July 2026 and had already responded to more than 15 incidents. It was established to strengthen fire and rescue services for communities in Moletji, Mashashane, Maraba, Matlala and surrounding areas, while also supporting neighbouring communities when required.
The facility also houses Municipal Health Services, bringing essential environmental health services closer to communities and strengthening the Municipality’s ability to respond to public health and emergency needs.
Mayor Teffo called on residents to protect the facility, work closely with emergency personnel and prioritise fire prevention and community safety. She further emphasised that heritage was not only about preserving the past, but also about creating a lasting legacy for future generations.
“Heritage is also something we create and something we leave behind.”
The opening of the TT Cholo Fire Station therefore marked both an investment in community safety and emergency response and a celebration of the legacy of a son of the soil whose contribution continues to be remembered.
