Capricorn District Municipality has elected and inaugurated Cllr Mamedupi Teffo as the Executive Mayor during a special council meeting today. Her election comes after the resignation of former Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe.
Teffo is no stranger to local government, after having served in different capacities in Polokwane Municipality including, most recently, as Chief Whip – a position she resigned from to join CDM.

“I accept this mandate mindful of the massive progress made in the delivery of water service to the 87% of our people. We all know that the greatest plight of our people first and foremost, because without it, poverty will continue to have a firm grip on our people”, she said, adding that her immediate task is to pick up the baton and run to the finish line and prepare the ground for a smooth transition between this current Council term and the new one by completing all outstanding programmes and conclude the mandate of this Council on a satisfactory note.
As required by law, Teffo appointed the following councillors as members of the Mayoral Committee:
Infrastructure Services – Cllr Maria Mokobodi
Finance – Cllr Blanco Boloka
Corporate Services – Cllr Chuene Malebana
Local Economic Development- Cllr Mabotse Mothiba
Spatial Planning and IDP – Cllr Sammy Selamolela

She said this team will in the coming weeks, embark on a process of consultation with various stakeholders to chart a clear approach and way forward in building better communities. “The time has come for this Council, the new Mayoral Committee and each and every employee of CDM to roll up their sleeves and dedicate themselves to the task at hand. The people of Capricorn deserve the best from all of us”, she concluded.
