CDM DISTRICT BOYS ASSEMBLY

CDM launched a District Boys Assembly at Ga-Maribane in Molemole Municipality. The assembly is aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the dangers of HIV/Aids, alcohol and other substances. It also aims to teach boy children about the negative impact of gender based violence in society.
Speaking during the event Cllr. Solly Mahlatji who is a Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Strategic Executive Management Services (SEMS) said that the district cannot fold arms when drugs, alcohol and HIV/Aids continue to destroy thousands of lives causing untold misery, pain, uncertainty, and family destruction. Children are left orphaned at a young age living them to fend for themselves as child headed households without parents, looking after their young siblings, leading to a greater demand for free basic services, government social grants and other welfare programmes.
Cllr. Mahlatji added that this problem then deprive them of opportunities in life, they miss out on education. Young as they are, they start engaging on sexual activities which expose them to sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/Aids. The launch was also supported by Father A Nation, Thuthuzela Care Centre, South African Police Services and other organisations.
