These schools emerged victorious from a pool of twelve primary schools across Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality. The competition challenged learners to present on how they address key issues, such as school environment and safety, water supply, waste management and sanitation, the National School Nutrition Program, and disaster risk reduction and climate change.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Mayor, MMC for Community Services Cllr. Elizabeth Rahlana said that CDM commend all schools for showing interest in this initiative and for taking part. The municipality salutes all learners for putting themselves forward to prove their environmental management skills and commitment to a safer, healthier environment in their schools.
“For you to be able to reach the final stages says a lot about you, your knowledge, your school values and your attitude towards your overall school environment. You are the kind of residents and role players we need in our homes,” said Cllr. Rahlana.
The theme for this year’s competition was “Environmental Health: Creating Resilient Communities through Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation.”
All twelve schools received a certificate of recognition, for participating in the competition, 25L hand washing soap and five trees.
