EXECUTIVE MAYOR JOINS LIMPOPO CENTRAL ACADEMIC HOSPITAL SITE VISIT

On 22 May 2026, Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo joined the Limpopo MEC for Health Dieketseng Mashego, the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality Cllr John Mpe, and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) Board during a site visit to the Limpopo Central Academic Hospital under construction at Flora Park in Polokwane.

The delegation inspected progress on the multi-billion rand project, a major tertiary healthcare development designed to strengthen and expand specialised health services in Limpopo Province. The facility, once completed, will significantly improve access to advanced medical care, reduce pressure on existing hospitals, and serve as a key referral centre for complex cases across the province and surrounding districts.

The project, a 488-bed academic hospital, is expected to enhance training for medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and allied health workers, through its integration with teaching and research functions. This will support the broader goal of improving healthcare quality and building long-term capacity within the provincial health system.

The site visit also highlighted the strategic importance of the development in addressing overcrowding in regional hospitals and improving patient outcomes through modern infrastructure, specialised units, and advanced medical technology.

The hospital, formally known as Limpopo Academic Hospital, is expected to be completed in 2028 and is regarded as one of the flagship health infrastructure projects in Limpopo, aimed at transforming healthcare delivery in the province.
