Representing the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, Cllr Murwa Phaka led the handover of business equipment to local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in partnership with the Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) at the Limpopo Tourism Agency One Stop Shop outside Polokwane.
The programme, which was attended by LEDA Group Chief Executive Officer Mr Jason Ngobeni, formed part of ongoing efforts to support and grow local businesses.
Capricorn District Municipality had invested over R2 million towards assisting more than 124 beneficiaries through this initiative, helping to create and sustain over 400 jobs since the 2016/2017 financial year.
The working relationship between CDM and LEDA dated back to 2004 when the municipality funded the establishment of two Limpopo Business Support Agency (LIBSA) offices in Blouberg and Lepelle-Nkumpi. A formal Memorandum of Understanding with LEDA was later signed in 2016.
On the day, 15 beneficiaries received equipment valued at R500 000 for businesses in the agriculture, manufacturing, textiles and hospitality sectors.
Beneficiaries were encouraged to utilise the equipment effectively, remain committed to growing their businesses, and build sustainable enterprises that would contribute to economic growth and job creation in the district.
