CDM moved from grade 4 to 5 and one of the best in MIG spending

CDM committed to spending all grants

Capricorn District Municipality has thrown spanner in the works to ensure that all conditional grants are spent and circumvent returning any unspent portion to National Treasury. This comes after the municipality managed to spend 66% of municipal infrastructure grant (MIG) for the current financial year.

MIG is a grant finance programme from National Treasury that is given to municipalities to cover the capital cost of infrastructure projects such as water, sanitation, roads, electricity etc to compliment the overall capital expenditure of a municipality.

Municipalities are required to plan, identify and register infrastructure projects with the National Treasury for MIG spending and report on such spending at the end of the financial year. If a portion of MIG is unspent or not committed to a registered project(s), the grant is returned to National Treasury, as required by sections 21 and 27 of the Division of Revenue Act and of MFMA.

In this financial year, the municipality has therefore already spent R471m of R712m that was allocated in the beginning of the financial year.

CDM graded a notch higher

Council is pleased to announce that the District Municipality has been moved a notch higher from grade 4 to 5 by the Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. This means that CDM is financially viable and has a stronger sustainable capacity to collect revenue and deliver on its mandate of a better life for all.
