CDM hosted a Disaster risk reduction day at Madikeleng

CDM hosted a Disaster risk reduction day at Madikeleng in Lepelle-Nkumpi

This is line with the international decree to commemorate international disaster risk reduction (IDDR), Capricorn District Municipality will bring together communities and NGO’s to empower them about disasters, build their resilience and strengthen CDM’s disaster risk reduction interventions.

The campaign reflected and facilitated a conversation about the coping capacities of people living with disability as they their plight is magnified whenever a disaster strikes. Disasters – which can be floods, thunderstorms or fires – and their resultant effects make children, youth, people with disabilities and senior citizens disproportionately vulnerable to harm in the event of an emergency or disaster. It is for that reason the event will showcase CDM’s efforts to embrace the special needs of vulnerable groups before, during and after the times of disasters.

The event was attended by community people who came in numbers.
