While the campaign runs only for 16 days each year, its objectives are reinforced by a year-long programme and a national plan to combat abuse and our district is leading these campaigns. Our District is still home to high levels of violence against its women and children, despite a world-renowned Constitution and a legislative overhaul that safeguards womenβs and childrenβs rights.
The government, business, civil society organisations, faith-based organisations and the media were all participating in the drive to increase awareness of the negative impact of violence and abuse on women and children. The programme was directed by Minister S. Shabangu and MEC J.Mashamba who emphasised that the dialogues are starting today in Limpopo and other provinces will follow.
The Premier welcomed all present and thanked all for the positive response to the countryβs recommitment of its stand of No violence against women and children emphasising itβs a year round message and not just during these 16 days and called upon all to daily campaign and stand against violence and abuse of women and children.
Our Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpe played his part also by giving the vote of thanks to all present and especially the President for choosing our District for the launch and for taking the time to come to our District
