Speaking during the launch, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Jerry Maseko said the 2024 Mapungubwe Arts Festival is a pivotal platform for strengthening social cohesion and cultural pride. “The festival has a role to unit diverse cultural expressions and promotes inclusivity within the province’s arts sector”, said Maseko.
The festival’s comprehensive programme extending from November 2024 to March 2025, includes a variety of activities designed to engage and showcase local talent:
• Cultural Carnival which features a vibrant street parade celebrating the province’s rich cultural diversity.
• Theatre, Drama, and Poetry Nights: the evenings will highlight the literary and performing arts talents of local artists.
• Craft Market and Exhibition: this market provides artisans with a platform to display and sell their creations, promoting local craftsmanship.
• Comedy Night: this event aims to bring communities together through humor and entertainment.
• Music Festival: The main concert features performances by renowned local artists, including Zonke, Judith Sephuma, Master KG, King Monada, and Dr. Winnie Mashaba, celebrating the province’s musical heritage which will be followed by Mapungubwe marathon and youth and diva festival.
MEC Maseko thanked all the people who make sure that things in the department are done and done correctly, and for ensuring this event becomes a success. MEC Maseko also acknowledged the work done by arts and culture organisation in working with the department to ensure issues of arts and culture are prioritized.
Other key stakeholders who graced the occasion were MEC for Agriculture Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana, MEC for LEDET Tshitereke Matibe, MEC for Health Dieketseng Mashego, representatives from arts and culture organisations. The launch took place on 11 November 2024.
