CDM awards adopted schools

Education is the single most important weapon that we can give to every child to allow them to survive and avoid a life of abject poverty.

This was stressed by cllr P Mahlo, member of the mayoral committee of SEMS at the back to schools awards ceremony of the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) held in Polokwane last week.

“Our ambition is to build a society that settles for nothing less than the desire and determination to excel in par with the developmental dynamics and demands of the world’s economy. “Capricorn District municipality is a developmental municipality. It works closely with communities and all interested stakeholders to find lasting solutions to challenges that impact on the quality of the life of the communities that we serve,” said Mahlo.

She emphasised that the awards that are conferred to the schools and leaners must therefore be seen in the context of promoting excellence in improved performance for all schools that CDM has adopted and their learners and should serve as encouragement for those who follow. “By working together, we can move this country forward. South Africa is full of promising opportunities and for these opportunities to be enjoyed, we have to start from inside the school classroom; it also begins within the family; and within your ward; and it begins with the municipality taking the first correct steps,” according to Mahlo.

The schools Alapha, Seemole Maraba, Rapatlha, Ketudi, Moremotse, Mpotla, Rampo, Kgarahara, Phiri Kolobe and Mokgalapane were adopted by the district municipality in 2014 to support them and find lasting solutions to challenges that hinder their performance.

And it is for this reason that CDM is involved in:

           investing in the future of children through back-to-school efforts;

           offers full bursaries to study skills that are in short supply; especially in fields such as engineering; and

           organise winter enrichment classes in key subjects for the grade 12 learners.

“We therefore extend our gratitude to the many men and women, namely our educators, for a job well done. You are central in the realization of our dream of providing education for all. In Capricorn, we afford teachers the respect that and dignity they deserve, said Mahlo.
