On 15 September 2026, Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) participated in Thusong Service Week activities as part of Public Service Month, bringing government services, information and officials closer to communities.
The programme commenced at the Eldorado Thusong Service Centre in Blouberg Local Municipality, where government officials engaged community members and shared information on various government programmes and services available through Thusong Service Centres.
As part of the outreach activities, officials visited Mama Primary School, where they joined the school community in planting trees and vegetables. The initiative promoted environmental awareness, food sustainability and community participation, while encouraging learners to appreciate the importance of protecting the environment.
The tree-planting activity also supported the objectives of Arbor Week, which promotes the planting, protection and care of trees. Trees play an important role in improving air quality, absorbing carbon dioxide, providing shade, protecting soil, supporting biodiversity and creating healthier and greener communities. Planting indigenous trees also contributes to the protection of local ecosystems and wildlife.
Involving learners in tree planting provided an opportunity to instil environmental responsibility from an early age and encouraged young people to become custodians of their communities and natural environment.
Thusong Service Week provided government institutions with an opportunity to take services and information closer to communities, particularly those in rural areas, while strengthening engagement between government and citizens.
CDM’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to Batho Pele principles, responsive service delivery and meaningful community engagement.
