COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ON WATER CHALLENGES

On 13 March 2026, the Capricorn District Municipality, led by the MMC for Infrastructure, Cllr Monica Mohale, conducted a project visit to the Grootpan, London, Sias and Ramaswikana Water Scheme Project to engage with community representatives from the affected villages.

The visit formed part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that water infrastructure projects were implemented in accordance with required standards.

The delegation, accompanied by municipal officials led by Municipal Manager Mr Ramakuntwane Selepe, met with representatives from the villages of Grootpan, London, Sias and Ramaswikana to discuss progress and address concerns relating to the implementation of the project.

During the engagement, it was revealed that the company previously appointed to implement the water scheme project had failed to comply with contractual requirements and had been utilising fraudulent documentation.

Following these findings, the municipality took decisive action and terminated the contractor’s appointment in line with applicable procurement and governance procedures.

The municipality further informed the community that all necessary administrative and legal processes were underway to appoint a new contractor who would complete the project and ensure that the intended water infrastructure would benefit the communities as planned.

Community representatives welcomed the intervention by the municipality and expressed appreciation for the decisive steps taken to protect the integrity of the project and ensure that service delivery was not compromised.

The Capricorn District Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the completion of water infrastructure projects across the district, ensuring that communities received reliable and sustainable access to water.
