CAPRICORN DISTRICT MOURNS MATLALA ROAD TRAGEDY

On 14 March 2026, the Capricorn District came together in grief as community members who tragically lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident on Matlala Road outside Polokwane were laid to rest.

On behalf of Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, Cllr Caroline Mamabolo, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Local Economic Development, joined the grieving families to offer comfort and support. She was accompanied by Cllr Lisbeth Mothata, Chairperson of MPAC, and Cllr Madimetsa Matonzi, Chairperson of the Finance Portfolio.

The mass funeral, held at Kalkspruit, Ga-Maraba under Polokwane Municipality, united the community in honouring the lives lost.

The tragic accident, which had occurred on 3 March 2026, involved two light motor vehicles and two minibus taxis, leaving six people dead and around fifteen injured.
