The Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, officially handed over wheelie bins at New Look Primary School on 15 May 2025. The donation was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of Asphalt (Pty) Ltd wherein the company contributed 45 wheelie bins to be handed over to ten primary schools within the Capricorn District Municipality.The benefiting schools joined the Executive Mayor at New Look Primary School in Extension 71, outside of Polokwane. The Executive Mayor led a tour of the CDM Air Quality Monitoring Station located at the school wherein the Air Quality Officer Modjadji Rangwato gave an insight into how the station works and its importance in monitoring air emissions in Polokwane as one of the few high-risk areas in the district.
The Executive Mayor finished activities of the day by planting a Wild Plum Tree, an indigenous tree scientifically known as Harpephyllum caffrum. The tree can grow up to 15 meters tall and its known for its glossy, dark green leaves, bright red fruit, shade-providing canopy and attractive appearance. It also bears edible, plum-like fruits that attract birds and wildlife.
The school named the tree a name “Mamedupi” which is the first name of the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality. The tree was planted as part of marking the Air Quality and Climate Change Awareness Campaign.
