On 15 May 2025, Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) proudly hosted the Disaster Management School Competition at the Landmark Hotel in Polokwane. The programme was led by Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Community Services Cllr. Elizabeth Rahlana, who delivered the welcome address on behalf of the Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo.“Today’s competition is not just about winning, it’s about learning. It is about understanding the importance of disaster preparedness, building resilience, and becoming responsible citizens who know how to act when it matters the most,” said Cllr Elizabeth Rahlana, applauding schools participating in the competition.
The following schools were participating in the Competition:
1. Kaputla Nkoane (Polokwane Local Municipality-Moletjie Mashobohleng),
2. Mamotshana Primary School(Molemole Local Municipality -Sekonye Botlokwa),
3. Mampote Primary School(Blouberg Local Municipality-Sekiding Village,
4. Molapo Matebele Primary School( Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality-Stanplaas Village),
5. Karabi Secondary School (Molemole Local Municipality-Moletjie Gaphago ),
6. Machaka Robert Mamabolo Secondary School (Polokwane Local Municipality-Mamabolo Village),
7. Segopotje Secondary School (Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality-Mashite Village).
“This is not only about the learners participating in the school competition but it is also the celebration of knowledge, wisdom and empowerment to our future leaders,” said Winnie Thaba, member of the adjudication team. The programme was an initiative of the District Disaster Management in partnership with Santam. After the school presentation, the adjudication committee will seat to consolidate the scores and winners of the competition will be crowned during the month of June.
