Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, has vehemently condemned the murder of two women at Onverwacht farm at Sebayeng outside Polokwane, during the bail hearing held at Mankweng Magistrate Court stating, “We are pleased that the perpetrators remain in custody, and we hope that the justice system will prevail to prevent them from obtaining bail.
“Most importantly, this incident has highlighted the persisting inequalities within the district, particularly the high unemployment rate”.
She further said, “We are appealing to all stakeholders to make the community aware of programs for poverty alleviation available in government”.
The Executive Mayor was with the Minister of Women, Youth and People with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo Violet Mathye, MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development in Limpopo Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana.
The bail application for farmer Zachariah Olivier, aged 60, along with his two employees, Adriaan De Wet, aged 19, and William Musoro, aged 45, has been scheduled to be heard in the Polokwane Regional Court next month. The charges faced by the trio include murder, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Additionally, William Musoro, a Zimbabwean national, is facing supplementary charges relating to the violation of immigration laws. The bail hearing took place on 11 September 2024.
