On 17 August 2026, Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) embarked on a community radio awareness campaign aimed at bringing important municipal information closer to residents while promoting safer, healthier and more responsible communities across the district.
The campaign focused on key issues including disaster management, fire and emergency services, municipal health, environmental management, water conservation and community safety.
The programme started at Mohodi FM before proceeding to Blouberg FM, and later continued to Moletji FM, Turf FM, Mphahlele FM and Energy FM. The radio engagements provided communities with an opportunity to interact directly with municipal officials and gain valuable information about municipal services.
The campaign was led by MMC for Community Services, Cllr Rahlana, who was accompanied by CDM officials with expertise in the various focus areas.
The initiative was sponsored by Santam, which maintained a longstanding partnership with CDM in supporting disaster risk reduction, fire safety and community awareness initiatives.
As part of the campaign, listeners participated in competitions and engagements, with call-in winners receiving fire extinguishers and first aid kits sponsored by Santam. These practical safety resources helped reinforce the importance of emergency preparedness at household level.
During the radio engagements, officials provided practical information on disaster and fire prevention, emergency response, public health, water conservation, environmental protection and community safety.
The Environmental Management component educated residents on responsible waste disposal, preventing illegal dumping and protecting the natural environment. The water services team also encouraged communities to use water sparingly and report illegal connections and vandalism.
The campaign strengthened public education and community preparedness while creating a platform for residents to better understand municipal services and their role in building safer, cleaner and healthier communities.
Through the initiative and its continued partnership with Santam, CDM reaffirmed its commitment to empowering communities with information and practical resources that support informed decision-making and community resilience.
