The Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo joined the MEC of Health Phophi Ramathuba at the ceremony to repatriate the remains of the Botswana nationals who passed on in a bus accident at Mamatlakala in Limpopo Province in March 2024. The ceremony is taking place at Polokwane International Airport.
The human remains of the forty-five Botswana Nationals were repatriated from the Polokwane International Airport to Botswana on 30 April 2024. The repatriation ceremony was led by Limpopo Health MEC, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba and in attendance were the Botswana High Commissioner Sanji Monageng, CDM Executive Mayor Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, Limpopo SAPS Commissioner Thembi Hadebe, Mayor of Mogalakwena Municipality Cllr. Ngoako Taueatsoala, other dignitaries, and Health professionals who were involved in the identification process.
The human remains belong to individuals who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident which happened on 28 March at the Mamatlakala bridge on the R518 road, with only one survivor. CDM Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo thanked MEC Ramathuba for the hardwork and diligence throughout the whole process, from the beginning after the unfortunate accident happened, for coordinating the process of identifying the remains, and for the compassion and comfort they have given to the families in this difficult time. And the Limpopo Provincial Government for moving with speed to finalize this repatriation process.
“This must have been the most difficult waiting period, and we once again thank everyone who provided various kinds of support to the families. We wish you a safe journey back home and please convey our condolences and sympathies to the families of all those who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. The thoughts and prayers of the people of South Africa are with them during this difficult time,” said the Executive Mayor.
