Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), represented by MMC Cllr. Solly Mahlatji on behalf of Executive Mayor Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, lent support to a key workshop that took place at Jack Botes Hall on 11 June 2025. The workshop was dedicated to engaging Senior Traditional Leaders, Traditional Surgeons, and Caregivers in preparation for the 2025 Winter Initiation School Season.The event was led by the Acting Premier of Limpopo Province and MEC for COGHSTA, Basikopo Makamu. Also in attendance was the MEC for Health, Dieketseng Mashego, underscoring the importance of interdepartmental collaboration in ensuring a safe and culturally respectful initiation season.
Acting Premier MEC Basikopo Makamu said “Only the rightfully selected Makgoshi’s from the districts of Limpopo will be allowed to host initiation. He further mentioned that they are working together with the NPA, SAPS, Department of health, Department of Education as well as Traditional Surgeons to ensure that there are no complications during the initiation school process.
CDM reaffirms its commitment to supporting traditional practices while prioritizing the health, safety, and rights of all initiates.
