CDM PUBLIC SERVICE WEEK CONTINUES

Today we visited Lebowakgomo Waste Water Treatment Plant which is located near Makurung in Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality.

The sewage plant is currently overloaded by waste that is coming from Lebowakgomo Township. It was designed to treat 3 Ml/day but it is currently treating 5.73 Ml/day which is nearly operating at 200%.

There are also oxidation ponds next to Lebowakgomo stadium and at Habakuk at industrial area that is treating around 1.9 Ml/day.

CDM is looking at upgrading the plant to 15 mega per day liters that will accommodate the current and the future development of the fast growing township and neighbouring communities. The upgrade of the sewage plant will be done in phases.

For the expansion of this plant, more funds are required. CDM has finalised and submitted technical reports that proposes for an expansion and required funding to The Department of Water and Sanitation. DWS, IMSA, Lepelle-Northern Water, Treasury Department and other stakeholders will guide on the processes of getting this plant expanded.

The visit was part of the public service week. The delegation of yesterday was joined by Department of Public Service and Administration and IMSA.

In the afternoon, the delegation met with the Department of Home Affairs. The public service week is ending tomorrow and the visits will be focusing at Mankweng hospital and other projects that side.
