CDM ACTIVITIES IN PUBLIC SERVICE MONTH

Today the technical team responsible for District Development Model (DDM) in CDM, embarked on a project visit in response to a Public Service Week that started from 05 – 09 September 2022. Members included Polokwane, Blouberg, Lepelle-Nkumpi, LEDET, Coghsta, Office of the Premier, and Agriculture, Part of the projects which were visited were the new softball stadium at Peter Mokaba Sports complex next to the new stadium.
The construction of the softball stadium started in 2019 and is currently at 49 percent of construction. This will cater for softball tournaments in Limpopo and the entire country. CDM has been identified as the home of softball, with the president of Softball South Africa, Mr. Mashilo Matsetela of Mahwelereng Spikes who hails from our Province. Limpopo has also been crowned the top softball team in South Africa for the sixth time during the finals at Turf Hall Stadium in Cape Town. They lifted the championship trophy in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022. Limpopo Softball will hold special lessons for Children (boys and girls) ages between 6-18.
The technical team led by Ms. Molatelo Mashego, the Executive Manager for DPEMS in CDM, proceeded to an identified site adjacent Edu-Park and Northern Academy school. The site is earmarked for the construction of an Academic Hospital that will improve the quality of health care for the people of Limpopo and provide a training platform for health professionals, and job opportunities in the province. The Polokwane Municipality is still finalizing the registration and allocation of the site.
The visit ended up in Seshego Industrial area, factory number 29 which is going to be converted into a digital hub. The project is led by the Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) which provides an integrated platform for the full implementation of economic development activities leading to accelerated industrialization in Limpopo. Factory 29 used to house Tempest back in the days. A company that was manufacturing radio brand called Tempest.
This site will now be hosting Limpopo Connexion which is to be a catalyst for an inclusive knowledge economy by empowering community members to participate and to establish ICT as an economic sector for job creation in the Limpopo Province. Its mission is to provide thought leadership for the knowledge economy through partnership, collaboration, and continuous innovation; information infrastructure and content; and ICT skills and ICT entrepreneurship development.
Tomorrow the visit will continue to Lebowakgomo Wastewater Treatment Plant under CDM before joining Home Affairs Department in the afternoon. The program will end on Friday, where the Mankweng hospital will be visited and other identified projects. These visits are part of September month which marks Public Service Month (PSM), an integrated strategic national event in the calendar of the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA).
The integrated government-wide program encompasses the Public Service week that started this week on the 5th of September 2022. This month will also cater for Heritage Day on the 24th. It also called Tourism Month and as CDM we embarked on a tourism Exhibition from the 1st to the 04th of September at Savannah Mall, promoting our tourism products. This month will also focus on Police Commemoration Day that will remember the fallen heroes and heroines.
