CDM hands over 10 water trucks to local municipalities

IN a move set to provide temporary relief for water shortages, Capricorn District Municipality handed over ten water tanker trucks to local municipalities on Wednesday 23 June in Polokwane.

The handover came shortly after CDM Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe made an announcement in his 2021 state of the district address to augment the interim capacity of local municipality while CDM works on a permanent solution in a form of water projects. The trucks were handed over to Blouberg, Molemole and Lepelle-Nkumpi municipalities as another support intervention to give them more resources to ensure continued water supply where shortages are dire.

“These tankers will provide clean and drinkable water from the point of supply to the point of use”, Mpe said, explaining that CDM was the first District Municipality to do away with the hiring of private water tankers and committed itself to providing this service. The trucks have the capacity of 16,000 litres of water each and they will meet the demand and size of the population where water is still scarce.

Water provided by these trucks is free and communities are therefore urged to contact their ward councillors to request delivery.
