EM delivers the 2021 State of the District Address

The Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality Cllr John Mpe delivered a virtual State of the District Address on 23 June 2020 at CDM Council Chamber. The address was the last of the council that was sworn in office in 2016.   

“This Address concludes a 5-year trajectory of development that was traversed to improve the lives of our people in the past five years. Although there is still much to be done to meet the aspirations of our people, there is no doubt that this Council stands down in October this year with pride as we look back at the progress made since 2016,”said the Executive Mayor.

“We should therefore acknowledge with pride the labour and sweat of our staff and councillors who worked together with our partners in services delivery to change our people’s daily encounter with poverty for the better. The expertise and knowledge they showed over the years has been instrumental and critical in guiding the work of this Council,” added the Executive Mayor.

He however added that, the long and hard journey has only begun. “ Our people go to the polls in a few months to give us yet another mandate, they will do so with hope that we are going to work hard to change their lives for the better – free of abject poverty, disease and unemployment and attain the vision espoused in our 2040 Strategy,” said the Executive Mayor.

The key elements covered in the State of the District Address included the 2021/2022 IDP/Budget priorities, achievements registered by the council and future plans encompassing municipal key performance areas namely Institutional Transformation and Organisational Development, Basic Services and Infrastructure Delivery, Spatial Planning and Land Use, Local Economic Development, Good Governance and Public Participation and Financial Management and Viability;

The Executive Mayor took the opportunity to thank everybody in society for the commitment they have shown in shaping governance and service delivery initiatives.

He thanked Magoshi – Maaparankwe a rena ka moka for their excellence leadership, willingness and interest in the affairs of the municipality, Mayors of local municipalities and their collective leadership for working cooperatively to represent concerns and aspirations of their communities at district level. He also thanked the mayoral committee and councillors collectively including the ruling party and opposition parties for the common course of serving the people.

“We wish to also take this opportunity to thank the municipal administration, inclusive of the management and staff for all the hard work and passion expended in putting together this IDP/Budget,” concluded the Executive Mayor.
