Capricorn District Municipality, Blouberg Municipality together with other stakeholders in the health sector celebrated the District Aids Day on 21 November 2019 at Taaibosch in Blouberg Municipality.
The aim of the event was to continue educating the community about HIV and prevention. The theme of the event was “Communities make the difference: Cheka Impilo”.
Speaking on behalf of CDM Executive Mayor Cllr. John Mpe, Molemole Mayor Cllr Edward Paya called on people to test so that they know their status, also to focus on prevention, and those who are infected to take medication.
“HIV testing is essential for expanding treatment and ensuring that all people living with HIV can lead healthy and productive lives. It is also crucial to achieving the 90–90–90 targets and empowering people to make choices about HIV prevention so they can protect themselves and their loved ones” he said.
He further stated that CDM is also pleased with the partnerships we have with communities who contribute toward the AIDS response through peer education, networks of support groups of people living with or affected by HIV, such as gay men and other men who have sex with men, sex workers, women and young people, counsellors, community health workers and civil society organisations.
The event was blessed with the SAPS provincial brass band who played the music liked by young people. The District Aids Day was also coupled with 16 days of activism against the abuse of women and children with 100 men participating in a 100 men match from Moshate to the event venue.
