The project aims to improve the bulk water supply to the city of Polokwane and Lebowakgomo area, which has been facing water scarcity issues. The Executive Mayor was joined by relevant stakeholders from affected areas, including Ga-Chuene, Lebowakgomo, Ga-Mphahlele and Polokwane. This was to ensure the voices and concerns of the affected communities were heard and addressed.
The multi-stakeholder approach highlighted the commitment of the municipality to involve and engage all parties in the implementation of the project. The meeting provided a platform for transparency and collaboration, allowing for a thorough assessment of the progress and any challenges that may have arisen. The meeting is a crucial step to ensure the project is completed successfully and benefits all communities.
The project is experiencing challenges, including work stoppages caused by community interventions and servitude disputes, ongoing threats to disrupt the project, the need to finalize land claims to engage rightful landowners, intimidation of the project team, with some groups displaying hostility, leading to concerns about safety.
A multi-stakeholder meeting acknowledged and appreciated the progress made. The Executive Mayor concluded by expressing gratitude to all stakeholders for their participation and commending the project’s advancements. “We are impressed by the progress. Let us not disrupt the project—water is essential, and our people need it. Let us make our people to understand the projects and what they will benefit from it,” Executive Mayor said. The meeting took place on 04 March 2025.
