CDM again participated at G20 on digital technologies led by Cllr Mahlatji. The prestigious G20 Digital Technologies Summit took place at The Ranch Hotel outside Polokwane, Limpopo on 09 June 2025. It brought together member countries from across the globe to engage in critical discussions around digital solutions for inclusive development and economic transformation.The event was officially opened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mr. Solly Malatsi, who underscored the importance of global cooperation in harnessing technology to tackle pressing developmental challenges. In his keynote address, Minister Malatsi emphasized that digital innovation must serve communities equitably and sustainably, especially in emerging economies.
Accompanying the Minister were the Acting Premier of Limpopo, Mr. Basikopo Makamu, and the Acting Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr. Solomon Mahlatji. Their presence highlighted the province’s commitment to positioning itself as a hub for digital growth and investment.
As part of the summit’s outreach activities, the delegation visited Kabelo Secondary School in the Capricorn District, where Minister Malatji officially handed over a consignment of brand-new laptops to learners. The laptops were donated by the Chinese technology company, Honor, represented by Mr Zhou Lefeng, as part of a digital education sponsorship aimed at bridging the digital divide in under-resourced schools.
Capricorn District Municipality played a key role in facilitating the visit, reflecting its ongoing dedication to supporting innovation, education, and infrastructure development in the region.
The G20 is expected to run for 3 days, with high-level panels, bilateral engagements, and exhibitions focusing on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, smart infrastructure, and digital inclusion.
The G20 Digital Technologies Summit is not just a diplomatic milestone for South Africa it is a powerful statement that the digital future must be inclusive, youth-focused, and grounded in sustainable partnerships
