The University of Limpopo’s Athletics Club bagged nine silver medals and scooped twelfth position nationally, and 1st position in Limpopo Province, during the Comrades Marathon on 08 June 2025. The Athletes were running an 89.98km race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in KwaZulu-Natal.The club fielded 22 athletes who all finished the race within the official cut-off time. The club doesn’t only comprise of students and staff, but also dedicated athletes from surrounding communities.
Congratulating the athletes, the Executive Mayor had this to say, “As Capricorn District Municipality, we remain committed to supporting talent in all its forms, whether it’s in sports, education, the arts, or entrepreneurship. The triumphs we are celebrating today must also serve as fuel to light the path for the next generation of runners, innovators, and community builders.”
Cllr. Teffo also urged the athletes to continue running a collective race toward a healthier, more active, and more united district. She said that they did not just run for themselves, but for everyone in the district, and for that, they appreciate the commitment.
