On 30 January 2025, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Sports Arts and Culture, Cllr Hilda Makhura, joined the MEC of Cogsta, Basikopo Makamu, and the Mayor of Blouberg Municipality, Cllr Maria Thamakga, in handing over a house to the Makwaeba family at Ga-Marais, Blouberg Municipality.Makwaeba Thene Andica(60) lived in a one-room house with 15 children. Department of CoGHSTA MEC decided to extend a helping hand by building and handing over a fully furnished RDP house, to the family.
“Please accept this gift on behalf of President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister Thembi Nkadimeng, Premier Phophi Ramathuba, Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo, local Mayor Maria Thamakga, and ward Councilor Raphasha. We ask that you take good care of this house, as it represents hope and a new beginning” said MEC Makamu as he officially handed over the keys to the family.
Expressing her overwhelming gratitude, the head of the family Mme Makwaeba said “I used to live in a one cracked room with 24 children and I cannot thank all of you enough for recognizing my struggle and intervening. This home is a blessing to our family.”
