Capricorn District Municipality has achieved a clean audit opinion for the financial year 2023/24. This was confirmed by the Auditor General during an ordinary Council meeting held today, Friday 24 January 2025 when Council considered and adopted the Annual Report for the same financial year under review. The Auditor General assured Council that the set of financial statements were satisfactory with no material misstatements and the AG also accepted the annual performance report. This means that the Municipality successfully cleared all findings from the previous financial year, and worth mentioning is the fact that there has been improvement in compliance with supply chain management.
When accepting the report, the Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo said she was happy that the Municipality has managed to reclaim the clean audit, which is in line with the commitment I made last year when we achieved unqualified audit opinion – to design and implement a remedial action plan, tighten internal controls and clear all audit findings from that financial year”.
She expressed gratitude to “Council for supporting the work of our Audit Committee and management in this mission, and we commend all councillors and staff for their hardwork and dedication to reposition our Institution as a revered point of benchmark in financial management – especially that we experienced a significant loss of talent in the Finance department at a very critical time ahead of the audit period”, she concluded.
Now the challenge for the Municipality is to retain this clean audit for the current financial year “and also give hope to our communities by ensuring that this audit performance translates to tangible service delivery milestones”.
