The awards formed part of the international Eco-Schools Programme, implemented by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA), which empowers learners and teachers to take action on environmental issues within their schools and communities.
Several schools were honoured for their continued participation and achievement in the programme. Among the recipients of the International Flag (Year 5) were PEPPS Ga-Ledwaba and PEPPS Mokopane.
Schools such as Briershof Primary School, Makgafela Primary School, and Motholo Primary School received the Platinum 1 Award, while Dikolobe Primary School and Mama Primary School were recognised with the Platinum 2 Award.
Further recognition went to Makgwadiba Primary School and Ramaahlo Primary School with the Platinum 4 Award, while Maribe Primary School received the Bronze Decade Award for long-term participation.
Mpebe Primary School and Pulamadibogo Primary School were honoured with the Platinum 1 Decade Award for their sustained commitment to environmental stewardship.
Teacher Francinah Mpelehe was recognised with the Operational Excellence Award for her dedication to advancing environmental education.
The event also acknowledged key partners supporting the programme, with Capricorn District Municipality receiving a Partner and Funder Appreciation Award for its continued support of the Eco-Schools initiative.
The awards ceremony celebrated the collective efforts of schools, educators, government, and partners working together to promote environmental awareness and sustainable development among young people.
