Ten schools in Blouberg receive EM donations

Ten schools in Blouberg received 2 thermometers and 25 liters of sanitizers as part of the Executive Mayor School Support Program. The Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe was joined by Mayor of Blouberg Cllr Solomon Pheedi as he continued giving support to schools under his District. The donation session took place on 09 June 2020 at Blouberg Local Municipality Council Chamber.

Speaking to the principals during the handing over, Executive Mayor said he told the MEC of Education Mme Polly Boshielo that “in this district we are not asking the department if it’s ready, we ask our ourselves if we are ready. Education is part of our programmes and we cannot define our community separate from our schools.

“We cannot look away when schools are having challenges with water. We have directed our water trucks to ensure that all schools are supplied with water. In instances where we have a reticulation in a village, we have taken a decision that the reticulation should include the schools and the clinics. Our priorities are the lives of both the children and educator and also the lives of everyone.

There is contradiction if people say the President must open the economy and yet they don’t want children to go to schools. There is a direct link between the two, as parents go to work, children should then go to school. Not all parents can afford to have children being looked after at home hence the importance of school reopening.

Today we are completing the first part of our program to assist schools as identified by the department of education. I take this opportunity to really appreciate everyone who is playing a role in this effort. The Mayor of Blouberg will also continue with this programme of identifying schools and provide support. We need to seat down with the district directors and look at ways to make a contribution on the school catch up programmes.

“We thank the district command council under the leadership of Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe. You have continuously supported us as a district unconditionally. We appreciate that the district is providing our schools with water. We thank our local Mayor Cllr Pheedi for this gesture and look forward to his contribution also. The thermometers will assist to augment what we already have. We promise to improve our performance”, said district director Mr Mothemane.

The schools that received the donations were Kgalushi Secondary, Rasekgala Secondary, Tlou Matome Secondary, Maphutha Secondary, Semetse Primary, Monyebodi Primary, Pokanong Primary, Seanego Primary, Letswatla Primary and Mahadikana Secondary.
