SCHOOL SAFETY PROGRAM IN LEBOWAKGOMO

Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), South African Police Service (SAPS), Community Policing Forum, Youth in Community Policing, Community Safety Forum were conducting a School Safety Campaign at Derek Kobe High School in Lebowakgomo.
The campaign held on 03 March 2022, saw learners from Grade 10 to 12 being searched by the team looking for items that ere not allowed at the school premises and any illegal items. The team found items such as cellular phones, dagga (sold by a Grade11 learner) which were then confisticated.
The School Safety Campaign is the municipality’s ongoing campaign were schools in the district are paid an unannounced visit and searched to seize items that are unwanted at school.
Mahlogonolo Makwela member of Young Civilians on Patrol spoke to grade 8 to 10 learners and discouraged the learners from doing things that were of criminal nature and not wanted at school. The campaign is ongoing and has been hailed to be successful by many schools that were visited.
