NEW PROJECT TO ERADICATE SEWAGE SPILLAGE

Capricorn District Municipality has commenced implementing a project that will see an end to the sewage spillage which has been a nightmare for residents of Makotse for some time. Makotse is a village just outside Lebowakgomo in Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality.
The spillage came after the development of RDP Extension houses. This is when the developer altered the sewage pipeline in the area, not far from Makotse. Sixty households are affected by the spillage. The project will cost CDM an amount of R4m and is expected to be completed on 30 May 2024.
The construction of the project is not without challenges, the constructors have to deal with hard rocks in the area where they dig to install the pipelines, and community politics in the area. According to Mmathari Matlawa, a resident in the area, the spillage is a problem as it interferes with their daily lives. Some roads in the area are not accessible. The community is as a result volunteering their time and resources to put soil on roads where the sewage flows.
