The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) of Capricorn District Municipality held a public hearing on the 2022/2023 Third Quarter Organizational Performance Report. The hearing led by MPAC Chairperson Cllr Lisbeth Mothata was held in terms of Section 44 of the Municipal Systems Act No. 32 of 2000 and Section 52 (d) of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
The public hearing is part of the MPAC’s role to exercise oversight over the executive functionaries of the council and to ensure good governance in the municipality. The Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, as the political head, led the executive team in responding to MPAC queries.
CDM MPAC has been hailed for the sterling work it has been doing to ensure accountability and good governance, as such, more institutions are interested in benchmarking how the MPAC operates in the institutions. Among the people attending the meeting were councillors and officials from Thabazimbi and Lephalale Municipalities, who came to benchmark on how CDM’s MPAC does its work following the municipality’s clean audit reports during the past years.
The visitors were from Thabazimbi; Cllr. Theo Kalunga (MPAC Chairperson), Cllr. Abel Sesoma, Cllr. Maxwell Mageze and Eben Morema (MPAC Researcher), and Elsie Seema who is an MPAC Researcher at Lephalale Municipality. The public hearing was held on 06 June 2023 at CDM Council Chamber in Polokwane.
