CDM’s District Disaster Management Team attended to the aftermath of disaster incidents that befell households in Lepelle-Nkumpi alongside MEC for COGHSTA Basikopo Makamu and CDM leadership team, Council Speaker Cllr Kholofelo Lehong, Chief Whip Cllr Lesiba Matsemela and MMC for DPEMS Cllr Matome Masoga.
The number of households affected by the disaster is over 224 and the number is likely to increase as assessment continues. Affected villages includes Mphahlele , Mashite Ward 25, Seleteng Nkotokwane, Lehlokwaneng and Mooiplaas. The strong damaging winds and thunderstorms blew off roofs and left many families who are now in dire need of shelters as well as public infrastructure.
Temporary emergency structures will be coordinated to reduce the effects of disaster and rekindle such household’s welfare and livelihood. CDM provided blankets, tents and toiletries, SASSA will provide food parcels while Eskom ensures power is restored by fixing damaged electrical poles and cables.
Representatives from Social Development, Human Settlement and Sassa were present. Red Cross Society and Gift of the givers is being consulted to provide assistance where it may be needed. The visit took place on 29 October 2024.
