The Mayor is visiting the School following a disturbing incident where leaners in a residential camp were robbed of their personal belongings including calculators they use for preparing for exams on Saturday night. The school reached out to the Mayor for support after this unfortunate incident.
This unfortunate incident happened while grade 12 learners were busy with their exams and preparing to write Mathematics soon, hence the immediate response by the Executive Mayor. A total of 42 Calculators were handed over to the learners.
“I was sad particularly because those whose things were stolen are girls and in my other portfolio my responsibility is to ensure the rights of women are advanced and protected. I did not know what what to do but I said I cannot fail them. This incident could have been a distraction, I could imagine writing Mathematics without a calculator but it should in fact be a motivation” Executive Mayor Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo said.
Capricorn South District Director Tinyiko Nkuzana appreciated the immediate response by the Executive Mayor and emphasized their commitment to ensuring that the learners are given needed support that will allow them to perform well in this year’s Matric results.
” I would like take this moment and share my heartfelt gratitude to our Mayor and District Director for supporting us because their efforts shows that they really care about us.” A grade 12 learner Mehlape Peter said. The intervention programme took place on 29 October 2024.
