WASTE COLLECTORS AND RECYCLING WORKSHOP

More and more people need to recycle everyday. This helps to reduce the need for landfill and more costly form of disposal.
Today, the Capricorn District Municipality Environmental Management unit, partnered with Polokwane Municipality, Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, LEDET and PETCO, to host a waste collectors and recycling workshop at Jack Botes Hall, Polokwane.
The workshop equipped collectors, waste pickers, buy-back centres and co-operatives with knowledge about the importance of recycling, what packaging materials are recyclable, and how to separate recyclable packaging from waste to generate sustainable income.
The presenters emphasised the benefits of the three principles of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle,” which help prevent pollution and climate change and create a healthier planet for all.
Waste collection is the transfer of solid waste from the point of ue and disposal to the point of treatment or landfill. The workshop took place on 30 October 2024.
