On behalf of the Capricorn District Municipality, I take this opportunity to congratulate the matric class of 2021 for making us all proud.
Not only have you made yourselves, your families proud, but also the entire Capricorn District, Limpopo and the country as a whole. CDM comes a long way in working closely with schools and consistently investing time and resources to improve our schools’ matric performance and reclaim our top spot in the Province. This includes a special matric camp which has benefited 300 learners with special catch-up lessons and prepare them for final matric examination and improve the overall district matric performance. The Municipality increased the intake of learners from 160 in 2020 to 300 in 2021 in order to cater for more learners from both Capricorn North and Capricorn South districts.
We are therefore pleased that this intervention has yielded positive results after Capricorn South has obtained position 1 in Limpopo with 73,8% and Capricorn North having shown improvement and joining other performing districts (67,8). We therefore commit to build on this milestone and continue supporting schools through various intervention mechanisms to secure the future of our learners and help provide them with a solid foundation to pursue careers of their dreams and life’s opportunities because the future of this District depends on the success of our learners.
In the same breath, we also convey with pride, ourto Lethabo Maleka of Setotolwane Lsen Secondary School for being the national top achiever in the public special schools category and thus changing the societal perception of people living with disability as equally capable individuals and for inspiring learners like him to triumphantly overcome their affliction and become the greatest against all odds.
Like the class of 2020, the class of 2021 represents a special cohort that defeated the odds of Covid-19 pandemic to succeed, and history will remember them as such.
I take this opportunity once again to congratulate the class of 2021 and wish all schools in our District success in 2022.
