District Aids Councils launched in Capricorn

 

Capricorn District Municipality officially launched the District Aids Councils. The councils will serve for a period of five years under the chairpersonship of mayors and executive mayors as the political head of municipalities. The councils were officially launched at an event held on 08 August 2017 at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane, a day before the national women’s day celebration.

 

The councils were officially launched by the MEC for Health Dr Phophi Ramathoba on behalf of the Provincial Aids Council. A Council chaired by the Premier of Limpopo Stan Mathabatha as the political head of the province. The councils will serve for a term of five years with a mandate to advice government, design and oversee the implementation of appropriate programmes in the fight against HIV/Aids.

 

The Council is chaired by Executive Mayor & comprises of representatives of civil society, labour, business & government. MEC Ramathuba presented a keynote address and honored the outgoing members of Council who served for the past five years from 2012 to 2017.

 

The launch was attended by Local Mayors as chairpersons of Aids Councils in their respective municipalities namely  Cllr Maseka Pheedi from Blouberg, Cllr Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana from Lepelle-Nkumpi, Cllr Edward Paya from Molemole, Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng from Polokwane and Cllr John Mpe from Capricorn District.

 

Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe presented an award and certificate of appreciation to Blouberg Local Municipality for the sterling work in their fight against HIV/Aids. Mayor Pheedi receiveed it on behalf of Blouberg Local Aids Council.
