The Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo led all mayors in the district and made a presentation on the Differentiated Approach on water and sanitation during a meeting held with MEC for COGHSTA Basikopo Makamu. Acting mayors of the other local municipalities in the district and officials, took part in the discussion relating to issues of water and sanitation in the district. The meeting took place at CDM Council Chamber on 22 April 2025.The Executive Mayor delivered a comprehensive presentation on the district’s water resource status, covering both ground and surface water sources. The Executive Mayor outlined ongoing and planned water projects aimed at improving access and reliability, while also detailing the key challenges currently facing implementation. She further provided insights into the district’s sanitation service provision, current water demand, and future water needs forecast.
Addressing the meeting, the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Basikopo Makamu, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to ensure communities have consistent access to water. He urged municipalities to develop and implement clear action plans to revive stalled water projects. Additionally, he called for strategies to reduce water losses through better infrastructure management, enhanced maintenance, efficient revenue collection, and improved coordination and stakeholder engagement.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders in the water sector, including representatives from Eskom, Lepelle Northern Water, the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), and others.
