CDM hosted a Deaf Awareness event at Setotolwane Special School at Mankweng, a few kilometers outside Polokwane, under Polokwane Municipality on 16 September 2023.The municipality host such an event annually to create awareness about the plight of deaf people and challenges they face in the society. But the most important thing celebrated here today was that Sign language has been made the 12th official language in South Africa.
A representative from DEAFSA. Patricia Kgamane encouraged people who are deaf to promote and teach members of the community, their language.
The event was supported by representatives from institutions such SAPS, Office of the Premier, DEAFSA, Department of Education and others.
