CDM MEET SAFA FOR SOCCER TOURNAMENT

The Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, today held a strategic meeting with the President of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Capricorn Region, Mr Mogashoa, and the Secretary General, Mr Malatji, to discuss possible collaboration on the introduction of soccer tournaments between local government structures and SAFA.
The engagement focused on strengthening partnerships aimed at promoting social cohesion, healthy lifestyles, youth development and community participation through sport. The proposed tournaments are expected to create platforms for young people to showcase their talent, while also encouraging unity and positive social interaction across communities within the district.
Executive Mayor Cllr Teffo highlighted the importance of sport in building disciplined and healthy communities, saying football remains one of the most powerful tools to unite society and inspire young people.
“This collaboration is not only about football, but about investing in the future of our youth, promoting healthy lifestyles and building the soccer players of tomorrow,” said Cllr Teffo.
SAFA Capricorn Region welcomed the initiative and committed to working closely with the municipality to ensure the success and sustainability of the programme.
Further engagements and planning sessions are expected to take place as both parties work towards launching the initiative in communities across the district in partnership with Department of Sport, Arts and Culture who are the custodian of Sports. The engagement took place on 03 June 2026 at Executive Mayor’s Boardroom in Polokwane.
