CDM held an International Day For Disaster Reduction and 2021 International World Space Week Virtual Workshop at CDM’s Council Chamber on 26 October 2021. The event was hosted for girl learners from the following primary schools; Tlou Kolobe, Komane, Senwabarwana, New look, Rapoho, and Sephala. All the learners from these schools were in grade 6 and 7.

The following secondary schools were also part of the virtual workshop; Rampo, Ramohlakana, and Khaiso. These are learners from grade 8 to 11. This workshop is the last activity hosted by CDM in celebrating IDDR this year.

When welcoming the learners Cllr. Betty Kgare, Member of Mayoral Committe for Community Services at CDM, applauded the learners for their commitment and for always participating in this programme.

The Women in SPACE workshop taught learners about various careers and what is it that is required for them to study for those careers at tertiary institutions and the qualifications thereof.

Stakeholders that did presentations to the learners to tell them about their services and career opportunities involved are; Municipal health services, Fire Services, Disaster Management Services, South African National Space Agency, South African Weather Services, ESRI South Africa, Agricultural Research Council, and University of Venda.

Manto Mailula a grade 7 learner from Komane Secondary School, said that the workshop was important to her and she learnt something that will help her in shaping her future and deciding which career she can choose.
