CAPRICORN DISTRICT WARD COMMITTEE SUMMIT

At the local government level, the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act, 1998, requires cooperation among district and local municipalities, to develop mechanisms for consulting communities and community organizations in performing their functions and exercising their powers.
Capricorn District Municipality today has met with MEC of CoGHSTA, Hon. Bioskop Makamu, ward committees and ward councillors, as the main participants, including the Political Management Team (PMT) of the District and Local Municipalities and sector department officials to deliberate on Water and Sanitation matters.
During the opening address, the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo said ” Ward committees are the pulse of our communities, our eyes and ears, our foot soldiers, and the library of the socio-economic profiles of our wards. This means nothing ever happens in our communities without their knowledge and involvement. Our municipalities strive to do their best to accelerate the delivery of basic services and build better communities. To achieve that, they know they need functional and effective ward committees to ensure that the voices of the people are heard and their needs are met.”
Presentations were made on overview of Operations and maintenance, current and planned water projects, Draft on water and sanitation, Eskom projects and Replacement of Transformers and CDM Talk App. The summit was held on 21 November 2024 at The Ranch Hotel outside Polokwane.
