Adopted schools improve matric results

Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality Gilbert Kganyago congratulates CDM adopted schools for their improved matric performance. The adopted schools are Alapha, Seemole Maraba, Rapatlha, Ketudi, Moremotse, Mpotla, Rampo, Kgarahara, Phiri Kolobe, Mokgalapane. These schools were adopted by the district municipality in 2014 to support them and find lasting solutions to challenges that hinder their performance.

During the year, t…he schools received motivation, awards, special winter enrichment classes and other forms of support from the district municipality. Almost all adopted schools showed relative improvement in their 2014 matric results. Raphatlha and Mpotla thus managed to improve from 57% and 16% respectively to 100% matric pass. Other schools also improved while some are still lagging behind.

“This is commendable, given the nature of challenges that these schools faced previously, and we are delighted that our efforts and involvement made impact in these schools”, says Executive Mayor.’

The matric intervention programme will continue and reach out to more schools that did not do well and schools that have number of enrolment.

For motivation and support, Executive Mayor, local mayors and councillors will, in partnership with the department of education and CDM Cuircuit, identify needy schools and visit them in the coming weeks. CDM will also partner with Eskom to take Expo for Young Scientists programme to the adopted schools and motivate them to be innovative and use science and technology to solve problems.

Moreover, Kganyago also congratulates the the district to obtaining number 3 matric pass rate provincially. Furthermore he congratulated two top performing schools in Capricorn District – Dendron Secondary School and Hoerskool Pietersburg (PHS) for their outstanding performance.
