Capricorn District Municipality has received an unqualified audit finding for the financial year 2013/14. Unqualified audit outcome means that the Auditor-General is satisfied that CDM’s books are sound and that every cent that has been spent can be accounted for, that CDM’s annual performance report is credible, and that the district has complied with laws and regulations.
“There is a lot of work, skill and expertise that goes into achieving a clean audit. It is not merely about accounting. It is about accountability”, explains municipal manager, Mr Ngoako Molokomme, adding that the good audit outcome is a fulfilment to the district’s commitment to the 2014 Operation Clean Audit – thanks to a combination of sound financial management, leadership, strong political will, rigorous monitoring and open, ethical and transparent administration.
In his audit findings, the Auditor-General has found that CDM’s financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position and the financial performance of the Capricorn District Municipality as at 30 June 2014. The Auditor-General did not identify any significant deficiencies in the Capricorn’s internal controls.
Executive Mayor Cllr Gilbert Kganyago says the unqualified audit opinion follows prudent compliance with the financial and audit management systems and processes. “Our aim is to make sure that the outcome is strongly connected with accelerated and tangible service provision to the rural and poor communities in our district. Having achieved improved audits performance the next step is to match this outcome with resolute determination to fight against corruption and luklustre performance by public service employees. This will enable the CDM to be a champion of the rural and the poor in improving their quality of living and working conditions”, Kganyago says.
